Introduction

The in-person payment network enables Merchant’s to leverage our reach and collect payments at many different pay points available—from large retailers to agents operating at small shops. Our goal is to rapidly increase Merchant’s payment network distribution, and truly allow customer’s to pay any place and any time they choose.

Prevelance

Consumer preferences are shifting to digital payment methods, however many of the largest businesses on the collect more than 60% from their customer’s using the in-person network. These preferences do not just stem from a customer’s access (or lack of access) to digital payment methods—although that is sometimes the case—but from stronger emotional preferences. Trust in financial institutions is weak, and customers may prefer not to link any recurring payments to their bank account. The in-person network puts the customer in control.

Enablement

Our in-person payment network is powered by our Billing ecosystem. Once integrated with the Billing service, your customer’s will be able to check the amount they own in real-time anywhere on our network, and you will receive a real-time notification once they’ve paid.

Payer journey

  1. The customer arrives at an in-person payment location and requests to pay a bill.
  2. The ‘clerk’ (generic name used for the POS Teller, the Trader, or the Agent, pending on market and payment location context) requests the customer’s unique identifier to fetch their payment details.
  3. The customer provides their unique identifier for the Merchant.
  4. The clerk verifies the customer’s name and amount due, and optionally asks the customer how much they want to pay and how they want to pay.
    1. Payment locations and Merchants can set minimum and maximum payment amount rules.
    2. Some locations can also share other bill details with the customer (for instance, the service or product the bill is for).
  5. The customer completes payment, and when it is completed successful, the payment location notifies Moment that a payment has been completed.
  6. Moment will notify the Merchant in real-time that the customer has paid.
  7. The customer will be provided a payment receipt which can be used as proof of payment in case of any support queries.
